The Most Expensive Perfume in the World + 4 Runner-Ups

Posted on |

All entries on our most expensive perfume in the world list are true works of art, including their bottles encrusted with gems and intricate goldwork. They are also ridiculously luxurious. Prepare for an adventure into the scents of otherworldly luxury.

What Is the Most Expensive Perfume in the World?

1. Le Monde Sur Mesure

The five kilograms of the Le Monde Sur Mesure was sold for a staggering £1.2 million to an unknown buyer who created their own fragrance encapsulated in the bottle. The bottle was adorned with two kilograms of gold and 1,000 diamonds. Each container takes 35 people and an entire year to create.

The world’s most expensive perfume is put in a bottle with a unique serial number, sealed in gold armour, and adorned with precious stones that best represent the scent and the personal aesthetic tastes of the buyer.

There are only six of these pieces in existence, with five belonging to the Morreale family and one that was produced and sold for over £1.2 million in 2018, making it the most expensive scent ever sold.

2. Shumukh

’Shumukh’ is an Arabic word, and it means ’deserving the greatest.’ The inventors of this perfume are called Creators of Spirit, working under the luxury perfume brand Nabeel. The scent, which costs a staggering £1 million for a 3-litre bottle, is packaged in an Italian Murano crystal bottle. The bottle is adorned with a gold falcon, Arabian horses, roses, and a globe to commemorate the spirit of Dubai.

The bottle alone has 3,571 diamonds (38.55 carats in total), huge pearls, 2.5 kg of 18-carat gold, and 5.9 kg of pure silver. The bottle itself is two metres tall, breaking two Guinness World Records. One is for being the tallest remote-controlled fragrance and the other for having the most diamonds on a perfume bottle.

The scent is composed of sandalwood, musk, ylang-ylang, Turkish rose, Indian agarwood, and patchouli, among others.

3. DKNY Golden Delicious

DKNY collaborated with the jewellery designer Martin Katz to develop and create the most exquisite and expensive perfume imaginable.

The bottle resembles the skyline of New York City, with 1,500 hours of labour spent meticulously placing the gemstones adorning it. Sandalwood, apple, musk, muguet, vanilla orchid, Mirabelle, and other exquisite scents make up the most expensive women’s perfume.

2,909 precious stones are included in the bottle, including 183 yellow sapphires, 2,700 white diamonds, a 7.18-carat oval sapphire from Sri Lanka, 15 pink diamonds, four rose-cut diamonds, and a 1.6-carat turquoise Paraiba tourmaline.

The crown is encrusted with a 3.07-carat oval-cut ruby, a 4.03-carat pear-shaped rose-cut diamond, and a 2.43-carat yellow Canary diamond.

The most expensive perfume in the world for ladies was purchased for more than £800,000, with all proceeds from the sale going to the Action Against Hunger charity.

4. Clive Christian No.1 Imperial Majesty

The fourth most costly perfume in the world is Clive Christian No.1 Imperial Majesty, which costs £10,328 per ounce. This fragrance features the beautiful scent of Tahitian vanilla with a touch of Provence rose, musk, warm clove, and vetiver carried by a base of sandalwood. Bergamot and Sicilian mandarin make up the top notes, along with ylang-ylang and honeyed neroli.

The bottle is made of polished crystal and contains a five-carat white diamond in the 18-carat gold collar. The bottle is so valuable that just 10 were produced. Seven were bought by private collectors, with the remaining three travelling around the world as part of Clive Christian’s unique collection.

5. Baccarat Les Larmes Sacrées de Thèbes

The company of Baccarat is renowned for its exquisite crystal glassware used by luxury perfume brands around the world. In 1998, Baccarat chose to enter the market with its own perfumes. Les Larmes Sacrées de Thèbes is the rarest of the three, and the most expensive one.

The perfume’s name means ‘The Sacred Tears of Thebes.’ Its bottle is shaped like a mesmerising crystal pyramid. Inspired by the smell of the Middle East, the ingredients include a blend of amber, jasmine, rose, Egyptian cassie, myrrh, and frankincense. The price is a remarkable £5,521 per ounce.
